Spend a morning birding together on this first of Fall weekend at Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park in Port Townsend. Emphasis will be on waterfowl, and we’ll be on the lookout for Fall migratory shorebirds, warblers and varied songbirds along the way.

Seasonal species on the water may include: Canada Geese, Mallards, Gadwalls, Teals, Ruddy Ducks, Northern Pintails, American Wigeon, Northern Shovelers, Hooded Mergansers, American Coot and Pied-billed Grebes. Virginia Rails, Great-Blue Herons, Greater/Lesser Yellowlegs and Killdeer may be foraging along the water’s edge. Cedar Waxwings, Yellow-rumped Warblers, wrens and varied sparrows will likely feature along our tree-lined path.

Meet in the main parking area near the caretaker site and bathroom building. Late arrivals are welcome to find the group along the trail, waterside. Best to layer clothing for early Fall weather. Bring binoculars and/or a scope if you have one. Excessive winds, steady rains and/or wildfire smoke cancel.
